The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, along with various federal and state agencies, have relaunched their coordinated crime-fighting effort, freshly dubbed Operation Queen City Safe. Departing from the seasonal focus of Operation Safe Season, the initiative continues to operate beyond the Yuletide's heightened vigilance, transitioning into a sustained program aimed at maintaining lower crime rates in Charlotte.

According to a recent social media post by CMPD, a plethora of enforcement actions have already been executed under Operation Queen City Safe. The unified efforts have amounted to 133 traffic stops, 51 citations, and 17 arrests. The operation has also led to the seizure of approximately 1,478 grams of narcotics, 14 firearms, and 2 vehicles, alongside the execution of a search warrant, and confiscating over $6,000 in US currency.

A highlight of these ongoing efforts included one notable arrest: a recognized gang member, a convicted felon previously charged with attempted first-degree murder and discharging a firearm on educational property, was apprehended with a Glock handgun equipped with a switch—a device that can effectively convert a semi-automatic weapon into an automatic one. This detainment marks a significant win for the operation, signaling the effectiveness of the heightened law enforcement collaboration in rooting out elements liable to spark violence within the community.

Much of the success attributed to this operation springs from the collaborative network comprising the CMPD, the FBI's Charlotte bureau, North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement, and the Mecklenburg County Alcoholic Beverage Control Board.
