As of 5:40 a.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 14, downtown Columbus is starting off clear and brisk, sitting at about 27°F. That chilly wake-up will not last all day. Forecasters are calling for a mostly sunny, mild afternoon with a high near 51°F and a light south breeze picking up later on.
Tonight Into Sunday
Late Saturday night looks a bit damp, but not like a washout. A chance of light rain moves in mainly after about 3 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, with overnight lows near 36°F. Most neighborhoods should see only a few hundredths to a few tenths of an inch of rain, with a few spots picking up slightly more, according to the National Weather Service Wilmington.
Weekend Plans
Saturday afternoon's sunshine is your best bet for errands, a walk along the Scioto, or any outdoor to-do list items. If you are out very late or up very early for Sunday plans, a light rain jacket will not be a bad idea. Smaller streams could respond quickly where any heavier pockets of rain develop, but forecasters are not expecting major river flooding.
Looking ahead, Monday is Presidents' Day (Feb. 16) and it is already shaping up milder and generally drier. If you can shuffle outdoor activities, Monday afternoon is the safer play for comfortable conditions.
Warm Week Ahead
A broad push of warmer air arrives Monday, sending highs into the 50s and climbing to a peak near 65°F by Wednesday, Feb. 18. South to southwest winds will crank up by midweek, and gusts could top 30 mph on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service Wilmington. It is a good time to secure loose outdoor furniture and be cautious on bridges and other exposed stretches of road during the commute.
This forecast will be updated if any watches or advisories are issued. Before heading out, check local media and the National Weather Service for the latest conditions and any changes.
