
In an unexpected turn of events, Columbus residents were alerted to post-midnight explosives disposal operations conducted by the Columbus Division of Fire Bomb Squad, working in tandem with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base personnel, as per an announcement released on the division's social media platforms.
The joint operation was set in motion after a new property owner in Knox County stumbled upon outdated military-grade ammunition, leading them to call in the experts; the bomb squad technicians responded, determining that the best course of action was a controlled disposal, carried out just before the stroke of midnight, this following the discovery of the said munitions, the involved agencies executed a swift operation that ensured public safety by eliminating the potential hazard.
The social media update from the Columbus Division of Fire highlighted that "The operation was completed successfully and without incident." It also emphasized that "advance public notification was not possible" due to the urgency and safety concerns, reassuring the community that there was "no ongoing threat to the community, and at no time was the public in danger."
The Columbus Division of Fire's post further expressed gratitude towards the cooperation of the property owner along with the prompt and effective response of all the teams involved, reinforcing their commitment to the safety of Columbus's residents by stating, "The safety of our residents remains our highest priority."
