New details have emerged in the investigation into the disappearance and death of 17-year-old Hailey Buzbee of Fishers, Indiana. Court records indicate that 39-year-old Tyler Thomas of Columbus has been linked to Buzbee through extensive communication over a period of more than a year, primarily using an encrypted messaging app named "Session" and online gaming platforms. WHIO reported that through "Session," Thomas orchestrated the teenager's exit from her home, purportedly to "runaway and transport."
Search warrants shed light on Thomas' confession to police regarding meeting Buzbee and managing her transportation through the messaging app. Despite his declaration that he left Buzbee near the Indiana/Ohio border, records and cellphone location data suggest that he traveled with her to Columbus and Logan. This account was contrasted by WBNS, who noted that records revealed Thomas drove to Indiana in his 2014 Acura to pick up Buzbee before proceeding to Ohio. Authorities captured DNA samples from the vehicle and took dozens of photographs in the course of their investigation.
Further investigation led to the discovery of contrary evidence to Thomas' claim, including a reservation for "two guests" at a Hocking County rental property, although Thomas told detectives he was alone there. Buzbee's remains were found at Wayne National Forest in Perry County, Ohio, a location Thomas led investigators to on Feb. 1, according to statements made by Thomas's attorney, as reported by ABC6. Subsequent excavations at a second rental property where the two were believed to have stayed were carried out by the Hocking County Sheriff's Office.
While no charges related to Buzbee's death have been filed against Thomas, he faces child pornography charges after detectives found child sexual abuse material involving Buzbee on his electronic devices. The FBI's delve into Thomas' phone further revealed disturbing imagery depicting a young girl. Thomas, whose bond is set at $1.5 million, remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail. His defense attorney has mentioned intentions for Thomas to plead not guilty to any allegations connected with Buzbee's demise, as stated in an interview with WBNS.
