Amid another day of remote learning, with parents potentially grasping for activities to occupy their children, the City of Concord has launched a creative initiative that may just fit the bill. Concord's government announced a Stormwater Art Contest, an opportunity for the young residents to channel their inner artists into a project with an environmental angle.
The contest invites students from kindergarten through 12th grade who reside within the city limits to participate. In a social media post from the City of Concord Government, the call was made for these students to not just be creative, but to literally draw upon their understandings of how to maintain clean waterways. "Let’s make a splash and help keep our #ConcordNC waterways clean - remember only, rain down the storm drain!" the post encouraged.
A deadline has been set for the submissions, giving participants until next Sunday to get their artworks in. But the incentives to participate go beyond mere engagement. The winning artwork is set to be showcased at a City Council meeting, offering a spotlight on the young creators and, by extension, on the importance of protecting stormwater systems from pollution. The details of how to partake in the contest are available to interested parties on the city's website, concordnc.gov/stormwaterartcontest.
