San Antonio police say a 32-year-old man is behind a string of gunpoint holdups along the Bandera Road corridor, culminating in his arrest this week on three aggravated robbery charges. Officers were first called to the 2500 block of Bandera Road on Wednesday for a reported robbery in progress, where workers at the scene were held at gunpoint and had property taken. Detectives later tracked down the suspect, who was taken into custody on Friday without incident, according to police.
Police account
In a post on the San Antonio Police Department Facebook page, investigators identified the suspect as 32-year-old Joshua Barron. The department says officers rushed to the 2500 block of Bandera Road on Wednesday after getting word of a robbery in progress. According to the post, Barron is accused of robbing workers at gunpoint, then taking off with their property before detectives later tracked him down. Police say he was arrested on Friday without incident and is now facing three counts of aggravated robbery.
Aggravated robbery and penalties
Under Texas law, a robbery becomes aggravated robbery if the person involved uses or shows a deadly weapon, causes serious bodily injury, or targets someone who is elderly or disabled. Aggravated robbery is classified as a first-degree felony and can carry a sentence ranging from five years to life in prison, according to the Texas Penal Code.
Bandera Road context
Bandera Road and nearby stretches have seen their share of armed robberies and carjackings in recent years, and it is not unusual for detectives to connect multiple incidents after combing through surveillance and other video evidence. Local outlets have chronicled similar strings of cases handled by SAPD’s Robbery Task Force, which has leaned on video and aerial support to track suspects, as reported by KSAT.
What comes next
Police say Barron remains in custody while investigators prepare charging documents for review by the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office.
