Lorenzo Greene, 21, of the District, faced the reckoning of justice when he was sentenced to 30 months in prison for the illegal possession of a handgun and marijuana with intent to distribute. The U.S. Attorney's Office detailed the sentence that was passed yesterday after Greene previously pleaded guilty to the charges in U.S. District Court.
The event that led to Greene's arrest occurred on Aug. 24, 2025, when he maneuvered a Nissan Altima equipped with stolen plates and dark tinted windows through an erratic chase, which culminated in a collision with an undercover FBI vehicle. Despite the presence of law enforcement, and the Nissan marked with a stolen Virginia temporary license plate, Greene chose acceleration over surrender.
Following the crash, Greene's attempt to evade capture failed, and officers caught sight of a handgun protruding from his waistband. A Taurus G3C 9mm loaded with ammunition was seized from Greene, along with approximately five ounces of marijuana, scales, packaging materials, and cash. This skirmish in the street was not Greene's first tangle with gun laws—his previous conviction for carrying a pistol without a license put clear prohibition on his right to bear firearms.
Judge Amir H. Ali presided over the case, advocating responsibility for the 30-month sentence and a subsequent three-year supervised release. Greene's history and possession indicated an undercurrent of defiance against laws designed to keep the public safe from such repeats of dangerous behavior. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jolie Zimmerman prosecuted this case, which fell under the "Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful" initiative, a program resolute on curbing gun violence and prioritizing federal firearms violations.
According to court documents, the pursuit and collision with the FBI vehicle took place after Greene sped across a red light and into oncoming traffic, prompting the intervention of the Metropolitan Police Department.
