Denver police kicked off the week with a "Mug Shot Monday" alert, asking the public to help track down 54-year-old John Albert Strandburg, who is wanted on a Denver warrant accusing him of distributing fentanyl that authorities say led to a death. The department shared his booking photo along with a brief physical description and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. Police added that the online post will be taken down once Strandburg is confirmed booked into jail or turns himself in.
What police say
According to the Denver Police Department, the suspect is identified as John Albert Strandburg, born Jan. 10, 1972. The post describes him as about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Police say he is wanted in Denver on a warrant for the distribution of fentanyl resulting in death.
Why the charge matters
Prosecutors typically treat distribution cases tied to fatal overdoses as some of the most serious drug charges on the books, and convictions can lead to lengthy prison time. In one example, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Colorado secured a 14-year federal sentence in 2022 for a case in which distributing fentanyl led to a death, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Colorado. Local prosecutors have brought similar counts in recent Colorado cases, as highlighted by the Larimer County District Attorney's Office.
How to tip
Officials say anyone with information about Strandburg can submit an anonymous tip through Metro Denver Crime Stoppers tip form or by calling 720-913-7867. The Denver Police post repeats the same tip line and notes that the Mug Shot Monday alert will be removed once Strandburg is either booked or surrenders.
If you believe you have spotted Strandburg, police say do not approach him. Call 911 in an emergency and use Crime Stoppers for non-emergency tips. Investigators add that clear photos or video, when safely obtained, can be especially useful in helping locate suspects.
