A Detroit man has been given a 60-month prison sentence following a guilty plea for a series of assaults that took place in Washington, D.C. in August 2025, as reported by the U.S. Department of Justice. Jerome Parker, aged 49, is admitted to charges of aggravated assault, assault with significant bodily injury, and second-degree theft. Initially faced with the possibility of a longer incarceration, Parker received his term upon sentencing by the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
On one harrowing day, an unsuspecting 66-year-old man was attacked by Parker after getting off a Metrobus near 14th St NW and Irving St NW, the Department of Justice recounts. Struck with a potent force, the senior was subsequently robbed of his wallet and essentials before requiring surgery and months of recovery with his jaw wired shut. Following in the footsteps of the victim, walking through the doors of healing and restitution, may seem a journey some distance from reaching its end.
The consecutive day didn't spell reprieve for the community, as Parker assaulted another individual he knew after a heated verbal dispute. The altercation, escalating physically outside of an apartment building on the 1400 block of 12th St NW, resulted in the victim being beaten unconscious and suffering a minor brain bleed.
Recognizing the efforts of the Metropolitan Police Department in the case, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro highlighted the diligent work alongside Interim Chief Jeffery Carroll. They further extended gratitude towards Assistant U.S. Attorney Valerie Tsesarenko, who, having shoulders laden with the weight of justice, led the prosecution. Parker's arrest came on September 26, 2025, and he has remained in custody.
