Breezy Jazz House & Restaurant is heading back to downtown Jacksonville, with owner Theawona "Thea" Jeffers planning to reopen the club at 337 E Bay St just before the Jacksonville Jazz Festival in late May. The return is set to bring more live-music nights and the comeback of weekday lunch service, something the venue has not offered since its earlier downtown run.
City backing for the Bay Street build-out
The Downtown Investment Authority has signed off on an incentive package of about $132,662 to help cover the Bay Street build-out. The deal is structured to reward long-term downtown occupancy and folds into broader efforts to boost nightlife in the Elbow entertainment district, according to Jacksonville Today.
What to expect inside
The new spot is being designed for roughly 150 seats with an elevated stage, and Breezy plans to ramp up performance nights from three to six per week while adding six days of lunch service. The lineup will still lean on jazz but broaden to R&B, blues and pop, and the refreshed menu will tilt toward New Orleans style Cajun and Creole dishes with items named after famous jazz artists. Lunch is expected to feature tapas-style options for guests who want a quick in-and-out, according to Business Debut.
A local venue with deep roots
Breezy first opened downtown at 119 West Adams Street in 2017 before shifting to San Marco during the COVID-19 era, and Jeffers has kept a steady slate of shows going since. The venue's website charts that history and features construction photos from the new Bay Street build-out, which the team says will help Breezy reconnect with its downtown audience, according to Breezy Jazz House.
Timing and downtown momentum
Jeffers told reporters she is aiming to sync the opening with the wave of visitors for the Jacksonville Jazz Festival in late May, a long-running Memorial Day-weekend event that draws big crowds downtown. The larger festival footprint, along with a run of downtown investments, has helped pull venues back into the Elbow, where developers and city programs have been nudging more nightlife onto East Bay Street, according to WJXT News4Jax.
Details on reservations, ticketing and the official opening date will roll out on the club's site and social channels.
