Officers Injured During Early-Morning Call
According to FOX Baltimore, the officers were assaulted while responding to the house. The outlet reports that the suspect, identified only as a 46-year-old man, was taken to Central Booking, where charges were filed. FOX45 also shared an audio clip of the call for backup that followed the incident.
What Maryland Law Says About Assaulting Officers
Under Maryland law, intentionally causing physical injury to a law enforcement officer who is carrying out official duties may be charged as assault in the second degree, a felony that can carry up to 10 years in prison along with increased fines. As outlined in Justia, assaults on officers and other first responders are treated as felonies when those conditions are met. Prosecutors are expected to review the police investigation and the officers' medical records before determining the formal charges to be filed with the State's Attorney's Office.
