A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy is recovering in stable condition after being struck and briefly pinned by a car while investigating a convenience-store robbery in East Los Angeles on Wednesday morning. Officials say the driver took off and, as of now, deputies still do not have a description of the suspect.
According to CBS Los Angeles, deputies were following up on a recent robbery in the 300 block of Atlantic Avenue when a vehicle pulled into the convenience-store parking lot. Investigators say the driver began operating the car recklessly, struck the deputy and pinned them for a short time, then fled the scene. Detectives were reportedly canvassing the area for witnesses and surveillance footage in hopes of tracking the driver down.
Parking-Lot Encounters Can Turn Dangerous Fast
Incidents like this highlight how quickly routine follow-up work in a cramped lot can turn hazardous, with vehicle strikes and deliberate rammings in past cases sending law enforcement officers to the hospital. In one widely covered case, a suspect in Bell Gardens rammed a patrol vehicle and injured a deputy, according to FOX 11 Los Angeles.
