On East Sixth in Austin, Fish Shop has quietly turned into the kind of place you either book ahead for or risk getting turned away. The seafood spot from Justin Huffman and Nicole Rossi runs a compact, coastal-leaning menu that leans on a raw bar, familiar fish classics, and rotating market specials, plus a drinks lineup that loves a martini and other classic cocktails. By the weekend, the small room fills fast, and walk-ins often get shut out well before peak dinner hours.
In a review covered by The Austin Chronicle, Darcie Duttweiler called out the team’s warm hospitality, well-timed pacing, and the generally buzzy atmosphere. She highlighted design flourishes like brown leather banquettes, globe light,s and embroidered fish, and pointed to playful touches such as a bell that rings when a Guinness finishes pouring.
Menu standouts
The kitchen focuses on oysters, crudo,s and straightforward fish plates, plus the Le Beef wagyu quarter‑pounder that originally came out of the owners’ pop-up. According to Fish Shop's website, staples include oysters, crudo plate,s and fish & chips, while Eater Austin traces the burger and the owners’ collaboration back to their Le Beef pop-up and earlier gigs at Justine’s.
Reviewer take: quality and price
The raw bar and sourcing drew strong marks, although prices raised some eyebrows. The lobster toast runs about $31.65 and the Normandy mussels around $32.85, with extras such as frites at $9 or sourdough at $12.50, according to The Austin Chronicle. Duttweiler noted a few minor misfires, including an affogato that could have used more gelato, but said that when service and pacing click, “it felt like a neighborhood place found its anchor.”
