Residents in parts of New Jersey and southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, are experiencing extreme cold weather. The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Cold Warning through noon tomorrow. Wind chill values may drop to 15 degrees below zero, with northwest winds of 15 to 25 mph and gusts reaching up to 55 mph.
Wind advisories are also in effect, as strong gusts may blow unsecured objects and cause falling tree limbs, potentially leading to isolated power outages. Blowing snow and snow showers may reduce visibility to one mile or less and create slick road conditions, especially on untreated surfaces. Drivers are urged to use caution and allow extra distance between vehicles.
Officials stress the importance of safety during this cold snap to prevent hypothermia. Residents are advised to dress in layers and limit time outdoors when possible. Those without adequate heat or shelter are encouraged to call 211 for assistance. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly by Monday, with highs near 28 degrees, but windy and hazardous travel conditions may continue.
