A high-speed wreck on San Antonio’s North Side turned deadly before sunrise Saturday, when a man’s car burst into flames after a solo crash near U.S. Highway 281. The crash happened around 3 a.m. on Thousand Oaks Drive near the 281 corridor, according to witnesses. Police said no other vehicles were involved. Emergency crews rushed the driver to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, as reported by KSAT.
According to KSAT, the San Antonio Police Department said the vehicle slammed into a tree and immediately caught fire. Reporter Christian Riley Dutcher noted that investigators spent the morning at the scene documenting the wreckage and speaking with witnesses.
Investigation underway
SAPD has not released the victim’s name or a suspected cause of the crash. Officers and crash investigators plan to review the damaged vehicle and examine the roadway as they work to reconstruct what happened in the moments before impact.
