What could have turned into a roadside mess on FM 1960 ended without injuries, after Harris County Precinct 4 deputies say an attempted flee near FM 1960 Road West at Mathis Church Road ended with one suspect in custody and traffic back under control.
According to the constable’s office, Deputy Gomez arrested a person on allegations of felony evading after the suspect tried to take off in a way officials say put drivers, passengers and other innocent motorists in harm’s way. Precinct 4 reported that deputies contained the scene and brought the incident to a close without further injury.
What the office posted
In a post on Facebook, Constable Mark Herman said Deputy Gomez took a suspect into custody for felony evading near the 1700 block of FM 1960 Road West at Mathis Church Road. The post stated that the attempts to flee "placed drivers, passengers, and innocent motorists at risk" and included photos from the scene. The office described deputies’ actions as leading to a safe resolution.
How the office shares updates
The Harris County Precinct 4 website notes that the agency leans heavily on social media and mobile alerts to keep residents in the loop. It uses Facebook and Instagram, and pushes notifications through a "C4 NOW" mobile app to share photos and incident updates. Precinct 4’s website encourages residents to follow those channels for local safety notices and traffic alerts. The office often posts field photos to document responses and flag road hazards for drivers.
Legal context
Under Texas law, evading arrest can start as a misdemeanor, but it gets bumped up when a vehicle is involved or other aggravating factors come into play. The thresholds that can turn evading into a state-jail or felony charge are laid out in Texas Penal Code § 38.04. Prosecutors decide on the specific charges based on the evidence and circumstances investigators report.
Why it matters
Attempts to flee from officers on busy corridors like FM 1960 can create sudden hazards and spike the risk of collisions for passing drivers and nearby pedestrians. Precinct 4 has been steadily using social posts to show how those calls play out in real time; Hoodline has previously noted this pattern, including a Rankin Road armed assault bust tied to a traffic stop.
In this latest case, the constable’s post did not identify the suspect or list any additional charges beyond felony evading. Precinct 4 asked anyone with information to share tips through its public channels.
