On a quiet stretch of Primrose Lane in Fond Du Lac, a family’s early morning calm was shattered when a stranger slipped into their home just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, police say.
A resident told officers they walked into the living room and found an unknown man standing inside. Investigators believe he got in through an unlocked patio door. Family members started yelling, and the man bolted from the house before police arrived. Detectives now have an active case on their hands and are working the neighborhood for any video and witnesses who might help identify the intruder.
What Police Say
According to FOX6 Milwaukee, officers described the suspect as an unknown male who may have been wearing a hoodie and a face covering. Police searched the surrounding area using a K-9 and a Fond Du Lac County Sheriff’s Office drone, but the man was nowhere to be found.
The department is asking neighbors to scroll back through their doorbell and security-camera footage and to pass along anything that looks even slightly off. Anyone with tips is asked to contact Detective Matt Chevremont at 920-322-3744.
Search And Neighborhood Reaction
Per WBAY, the call came from the 1600 block of Primrose Lane, off Rienzi Road west of Highway 151. Family members told police the resident’s shouts sent the suspect running from the home.
Fond Du Lac Police Chief Aaron Goldstein, in a statement reported by WBAY, urged neighbors to keep an eye on each other and speak up if something seems off, saying residents should "please remain alert, check on your neighbors, and report anything suspicious." Officers set up a perimeter and conducted an extensive search, but the suspect was already gone when they got there.
How Investigators Are Chasing Leads
Detectives say canvassing the neighborhood for doorbell and surveillance video is a top priority as they work out the overnight timeline. The department has in recent years leaned on shared camera networks and license-plate reader systems to speed up investigations, according to Spectrum News 1.
Police stressed how often neighborhood cameras have cracked cases in similar incidents and are urging residents to comb through any recordings from the early-morning hours for unfamiliar people, vehicles, or activity.
Anyone with information can email Detective Chevremont or call 920-322-3744. To remain anonymous, residents can call the Crime Alert line at 920-322-3740, according to FOX6 Milwaukee. Investigators are also reminding neighbors to lock doors and review doorbell-camera clips as the probe continues.
