The Forever Jimmy G Music Festival, a daylong tribute to the late Tejano legend Jimmy Gonzalez, is set to take over downtown San Antonio on March 14, bringing a packed slate of Tejano and conjunto favorites to Milam Park next to Market Square. Organizers are promising extended sets, a pop-up museum of Jimmy G memorabilia and family-friendly activities, with gates opening at 11 a.m. and live music kicking off at noon. The event is led by Jimmy’s son, Mike Gonzalez, and marks the first major stop as the festival grows into a touring celebration.
Full lineup and set times
The bill is stacked with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales, Jay Perez, The Delta Boyz, David Farias y La Tropa F, La Dezz, Sin Código, Horizonte Norteño and host band Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz, with podcast host Bumper Gomez serving as master of ceremonies, as reported by Tejano Nation. Mike Gonzalez told the outlet, "These bands that I just mentioned to you are going to play at least an hour." The festival is set up as an all-ages event, with the first sets scheduled to start at noon.
Tickets, museum and logistics
Pre-sale bracelets are listed at $10, and the festival provides 979-473-4261 as the contact number for more details, according to Tejano 1600. Along with the live performances, organizers say fans can expect food vendors and a kids play area, plus the Jimmy G Museum exhibit showcasing guitars, Grammy awards, stage outfits and photographs. Promoters also note that vendor spots and bracelet presales are still available for local sellers.
Where it will be and what else is happening downtown
Milam Park is a city-owned green space in the heart of downtown at 501 W. Commerce St., which makes the festival an easy walk from Market Square and nearby attractions, per the City of San Antonio. The event lands on the same Tejano-heavy weekend as the Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair, which runs March 12 6 615 at Hemisfair Park and is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans, as reported by the San Antonio Express-News. With stages and fan events spread across downtown, organizers say the March weekend is shaping up to be especially busy for Tejano fans and for nearby businesses.
Legacy and new music
Jimmy Gonzalez helped shape modern Tejano as co-founder of Mazz, and the festival is presented as both a tribute and a handoff to a new generation of artists. Mike Gonzalez & The Iconiczz are already rolling out new material through Freddie Records; Gonzalez told Tejano Nation that the band’s debut album is on the way, and their lead single "Siempre Te CuidarE9" is available on streaming platforms. The single’s release is listed on services including Amazon Music, and organizers say the festival will serve as a showcase for that next chapter.
Organizers add that more performers could be announced before March 14, and they see the San Antonio date as the first of several stops for the Forever Jimmy G tour. Festival officials plan to release more event details and the official flyer in the coming weeks.
