In a disconcerting turn of events, a former coach at Mount Dora High School has been detained on charges of child solicitation. Colby Erskin, who served in this position for a mere month, was arrested last week and made his initial court appearance in Broward County recently, according to a report by WFTV.
The allegations revolve around inappropriate messages that the 39-year-old Erskin purportedly sent to a minor. The situation has only been exacerbated by additional charges involving the transmission of harmful materials to a minor. This development stemmed from Erskin's tenure at South Plantation High School, where the former coach allegedly engaged in an unsettling progression of interactions with a 15-year-old student, the daughter of Yaniv Rosenberg.
During a courtroom session where the judge set Erskin's bond at $500,000, the aggrieved father described a harrowing sequence of events. "From 'do you need help in math?' to 'you look cute,' to sexual comments, to 'you want to hang out,' to 'can I see you after the football game,' to freakin' naked pics of himself," Rosenberg stated, as reported by WESH. The accuser's father voiced his outrage, struggling with the notion of explaining to his daughter the potential dangers posed by those entrusted to educate and coach their charges.
Prior to this controversy, Erskin had been employed at a Broward County high school, serving in his position from 2022 to 2024 before transferring to Mount Dora in Lake County. Erskin was apprehended by Seminole County sheriff's deputies last Thursday, acting on a warrant from the Plantation Police Department.
