The Fort Dobbs State Historic Site will close beginning February 17, as staff prepare to transition into a new 3,700-square-foot visitor center, the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources announced on February 11th. The closure will affect all site facilities, including the fort, restrooms, tour trails, and parking lot.
The closure will allow Fort Dobbs staff to relocate operations, train new team members, prepare new exhibits, and restock the expanded gift shop. While an exact reopening date has not been finalized, the site plans a soft opening in mid-April. A larger opening celebration will be announced later in the spring, according to North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Fort Dobbs, located at 438 Fort Dobbs Rd. in Statesville, N.C., was a key site during the French and Indian War (1754–1763), reflecting the region’s involvement in broader imperial conflicts that contributed to the foundations of American independence. For more information, contact the site at 704-873-5882 through the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Visitors seeking updates during the closure can follow Fort Dobbs’ website and social media accounts for the latest information on the site’s status.
