The National Weather Service in Tampa Bay has issued multiple advisories, including a Freeze Warning and a Cold Weather Advisory, as temperatures plummet across the region. Residents are facing sub-freezing temperatures as low as 25 degrees, with wind chills dipping to around 24 degrees. The affected areas, including influential cities such as Tampa, Port Charlotte, and Fort Myers, are expected to see these conditions persist until Monday morning, according to NWS official forecasts.

Under the Freeze Warning, the cold spell could pose significant threats to crops, other sensitive vegetation, and potentially unprotected outdoor plumbing. In response, the NWS advises locals to "take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold." The advisory also stresses the importance of keeping pets indoors as much possible and wearing appropriate attire, including a hat and gloves if venturing outside.

Alongside the chilling temperatures, a High Rip Current Risk has been declared for several coastal areas until this evening. The risk extends to beaches in counties like Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Lee. Dangerous rip currents could overpower even strong swimmers, pulling them away from safety closer to shore. The NWS urges beachgoers to swim near lifeguards and provides guidance on how to respond if caught in a rip current: "relax and float. Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline." If escape is not possible, they recommend signaling for help.
