Porfirio's Place, a tight-knit mother-and-son Mexican counter run by Erika and Jesus Landeros, is gearing up to open this spring in the Sovana neighborhood of Spring Valley. Named for the family's patriarch, Porfirio, the shop will draw on the family's Sinaloa roots and is expected to serve tacos, burritos, and freshly made pozole.
Jesus told What Now Las Vegas that they are building out a compact counter inside a gas station on Rainbow Boulevard and are still working through permits. "We hope it brings people joy, and they can feel the love we put in our food," he said. He added that Porfirio's Place does not yet have a website or social media accounts, while they focus on finishing the space.
Pozole and the menu
One of the promised staples at Porfirio's Place is pozole, a traditional Mexican stew made from hominy and meat and commonly topped with shredded cabbage, radishes, and lime, according to Wikipedia. The Landeros family says their recipes follow Sinaloa traditions and will spotlight handmade broths and simple toppings instead of elaborate plating.
Where it'll be
Public business listings show 6085 S Rainbow Blvd as a fuel-and-retail strip that includes a 76 gas station and several small shops, putting the new counter in a visible, walk-up spot for nearby customers; that address appears in local map and directory results such as MapQuest. What Now Las Vegas reported that a city business permit lists that address for Porfirio's Place and that the owners plan to open in the spring.
What to watch for
The Landeros are still wrapping up the buildout and expect to share operating hours and a firm opening date once the counter is ready. For now, Porfirio's Place is shaping up as a compact, family-run spot aiming to serve Sinaloa flavors to Sovana residents looking for tacos, burritos and steaming bowls of pozole alongside their fill-up.
