Elyria police say a late-night shooting inside a Jackson Avenue home on Feb. 4 left one man wounded and the neighborhood on edge, and now two people are in custody while a third suspect remains on the run. Officers found the injured man inside the residence, and he was taken to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for treatment as detectives began what has turned into a citywide search that has already turned up multiple weapons and arrest warrants.

Arrests and warrants

Investigators say an arrest warrant has been issued for 18-year-old Barry Vaughn Jr., who is charged with felonious assault and discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises and is still at large. Police arrested John Carter on Feb. 12 in the 800 block of West Avenue on charges of felonious assault and possession of a defaced firearm. Court records show he is being held on a $501,000 bond. The following day, Feb. 13, officers took a 17-year-old into custody in the 600 block of Middle Avenue. The teen faces charges that include aggravated robbery, discharge of a firearm on or near prohibited premises, and felonious assault, according to WKYC.
