A man believed to be between 18 and 26 years old is fighting for his life after being shot in the head early Tuesday on San Antonio's West Side. Officers found him in the 3000 block of West Salinas Street and rushed him to University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition, according to police.

Officers were called around 1:25 a.m. to the area near South Zarzamora and discovered the victim with a gunshot wound to the head, according to KENS5. Investigators said they do not yet know what led up to the shooting and had no suspect information to release. Emergency crews from the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene, the station reported.

West Side Shootings And Local Data

This latest case is part of a run of violent incidents on the West Side that have left neighbors on edge. Authorities previously asked for the public's help after a Jan. 6 shooting that also left a man critically wounded, according to KSAT. City officials have been directing residents to a new SAPD crime dashboard that breaks down neighborhood level trends and response data, a tool that local reporters say is intended to give communities more context about gun violence patterns and policing in their ZIP codes, San Antonio Report noted.

Investigation And How To Help

SAPD detectives are leading the investigation, and officers stayed in the area for hours after the shooting, KENS5 reported. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867), text “Tip 127” followed by a message to CRIMES (274637), or submit a tip through the P3 Tips app, per the Crime Stoppers of San Antonio website.
