Two individuals, including a Hernando County Sheriff's deputy, were hospitalized following a rollover crash in Brooksville this past Saturday morning, as per reports from the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident, which unfolded around 11 a.m. at the crossroads of U.S. 41 and Grand Entrada Boulevard, led to all lanes of southbound U.S. 41 being shut down while the scene was managed by law enforcement.
The collision involved a patrol car that ended up on its side after flipping multiple times, and a Nissan Rogue, driven by a 69-year-old man from Weeki Wachee, WFLA reported. According to FOX 13 News, the deputy had been in the midst of a traffic stop, pursuing a speeding driver before the crash occurred.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the 28-year-old deputy was heading south on U.S. 41 when a Nissan attempted to cross from Grand Entrada Boulevard, entering the deputy's path. WTSP reported both drivers were trapped and had to be extricated before being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Current information on the hospitalized individuals’ conditions is limited, but their injuries are reported as non-life-threatening. The deputy was taken to a local trauma center. FHP has not yet released the names of those involved as the investigation continues.
