The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is taking proactive steps to prevent violence by delivering intervention notifications to youth identified as at risk for gang or group-related activity. Detectives and community partners go door-to-door to provide these notifications, offering support and resources.
A Facebook post on the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Facebook page notes that the initiative was created a decade ago by then-Assistant Chief T.K. Waters, now Sheriff. While not every youth approached accepts the offer, more than a thousand intervention notifications have been issued. The program aims to engage at-risk individuals before they become involved in violence and has resulted in numerous success stories.
Pastor Garland Scott participates in the program, using his own experiences to connect with young people and support the department’s preventive efforts.
