Four Jacksonville teenagers have been detained and face serious charges after authorities say a robbery attempt turned violent. According to a Facebook post from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the group — two 16-year-olds and two 15-year-olds — allegedly attempted an armed robbery that escalated into an exchange of gunfire.
The incident occurred last Tuesday, near Norwood Avenue. Authorities say a man was sitting in his car when armed suspects approached and ordered him out of the vehicle. Gunfire was exchanged between the suspects and the victim, and two of the teens were injured. Police say the man returned fire, wounding two of the alleged assailants.
Detectives with the Robbery and Violent Crimes Unit identified and arrested 16-year-olds James Bowden and Adrian Durham, along with 15-year-olds Lajhyisan Foreman and Uriah Scarver. Authorities noted that Foreman was 14 at the time of the alleged offense. All four are facing charges of armed robbery and attempted murder.
Uriah Scarver remains hospitalized with a gunshot wound and has been absentee booked, meaning he will be taken into custody upon his release. The Sheriff’s Office also urged parents to monitor their children’s associations and pointed to available community resources aimed at steering young people away from violence.
