Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is extending its reach to seek community input, announcing additional workshops in February and March devoted to discussing the Meck Playbook—a comprehensive master plan focusing on local parks, nature centers, and other recreational facilities. Established in 2021 and designed to span a decade, the master plan is currently under review as the county evaluates the past five years and preps for adjustments needed in the next five, as reported in a Mecklenburg County recent announcement.
After strong participation in two initial workshops, Mecklenburg County is offering four additional sessions, both in-person and virtual, to gather community input. Residents are encouraged to share their ideas on how the county should prioritize resources for parks and recreational spaces.
The virtual workshop is scheduled for February 17, from 6 to 7 p.m.; interested participants can register online to receive the Zoom link. In-person drop-in workshops will be held across the county: March 5 at the Northern Regional Recreation Center in Cornelius, and March 7 at both the Winget Recreation Center in Charlotte and the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex in Matthews. Optional registration details are available on the county's website.
The Meck Playbook update guides county investments in parks, trails, and recreation spaces, supporting community well-being and environmental sustainability. According to the Park and Recreation Department, the plan takes a holistic approach, combining environmental preservation with programs and staffing adjustments to ensure public spaces meet evolving community needs.
In addition to workshops, Mecklenburg County is collecting feedback through an online community survey and a statistically valid survey to understand resident needs. Park and Recreation staff will also attend local events this spring to gather in-person input. Residents can stay updated by subscribing at PublicInput.com/MeckPlaybook.
