Lunchtime in downtown Las Vegas took a violent turn Wednesday when a person was stabbed near Owens Avenue and Main Street, sending the victim to the hospital and police scrambling through nearby blocks in search of a suspect.
According to FOX5, the victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical treatment. The stabbing unfolded around 12 p.m., right at the intersection of Owens and Main, rattling an area that has already seen more than its share of recent violence.
Police response
Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department quickly flooded the surrounding streets after the midday attack, canvassing nearby blocks while detectives worked the scene, gathered evidence, and interviewed witnesses, FOX5 reported. As of that report, Metro had not yet found the suspect, and the investigation remained very much active.
Recent downtown incidents
The stabbing is the latest in a string of violent incidents downtown. Earlier this month, a separate knife attack in the area turned deadly, according to KTNV, which reported one person killed and another detained in that case.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal has also chronicled other knife-related cases and police probes throughout the downtown corridor, highlighting ongoing public-safety headaches for Metro’s downtown units. Local reporting and public-safety officials have pointed to a combined strategy of enforcement and outreach in an effort to tamp down violent confrontations in the neighborhood.
How to help
Anyone with information about Wednesday’s stabbing is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at (702) 385-5555 or submit a tip online, per Crime Stoppers of Nevada. Investigators are especially interested in hearing from witnesses or anyone who may have captured video from the area as detectives continue to follow leads.
This is a developing story, and details may change as Metro releases more information.
