Police: Driver Fled, Then Was Tracked Down
According to FOX5, Metro police said the motor home failed to yield and hit the teen as he used the marked crosswalk. Officers say the driver took off after the collision but was later found, showed signs of impairment and has been booked on DUI and hit-and-run charges.
Rising Pedestrian Toll In Clark County
Pedestrian deaths have been climbing across the valley in recent years, with speeding and impairment frequently cited as key factors. Local reporting of state data shows Clark County recorded a 47 percent jump in pedestrian fatalities in 2024 compared with 2023, according to KTNV, a grim backdrop for collisions on busy corridors like Lake Mead that remain a top concern for safety officials.
Investigation And Charges
Metro's Collision Investigation Section is leading the case, and the driver faces DUI and hit-and-run counts, per FOX5. Prosecutors are expected to review the investigative file and toxicology results as the case moves through the criminal process.
What Neighbors And Drivers Should Know
Crashes on high-speed stretches of Lake Mead have fueled repeated calls for tougher enforcement and street design changes, and officials continue to urge drivers to slow down, yield to pedestrians and never get behind the wheel impaired. Metro is asking anyone with dash-cam or cellphone video from Saturday's collision to contact investigators to help clarify exactly what unfolded in the moments before impact.
