A technical rescue had Los Angeles firefighters hustling into Valley Village on Thursday, after an alert flagged an emergency near 5400 N Coldwater Canyon Avenue.
Units from the Los Angeles Fire Department were dispatched to the Coldwater Canyon corridor after the incident was logged as a rescue in the area, drawing crews to a stretch of road that has seen more than its fair share of trouble.
According to LAFD, the department issued a brief social media alert labeling the incident a “technical rescue” at 5400 N Coldwater Canyon Ave and listing Fire Station 102 among the responding units. The post included a map and a “details” link, but did not provide any information on patients or injuries. The alert was timestamped 18:43:22 UTC on Feb. 5, 2026.
What dispatch and public feeds show
Coldwater Canyon has a reputation on public dispatch trackers as a trouble spot for rescues and traffic collisions, thanks in part to its steep banks and dry riverbeds. Incident logs on LAIT911 list multiple recent responses along the corridor, a pattern that helps explain why specialized rescue teams are often sent into that stretch.
Past incidents at this location
LAFD records show a deadly fall at the same 5400 N Coldwater Canyon address in July 2023. In that earlier alert, the department reported that “one adult male patient plummeted approximately 50 feet from a bridge,” and noted that firefighters stayed on scene to assist LAPD and the coroner. The archived alert on LAFD indicates Fire Station 102 was also among the units responding to that incident.
For now, the department’s initial social alert is the only official word on Thursday’s rescue, and no additional details about what prompted the response have been released. This story will be updated if LAFD or city officials provide further information. The department’s profile reiterates that anyone reporting an emergency should call or text 911.
