Nissan is pulling back roughly 642,698 Rogue SUVs in the United States after federal safety regulators flagged two separate problems that can suddenly kill power and, in some cases, spark an under-hood fire. The sweeping move hits recent model years of the brand's best-selling crossover and piles on to a string of powertrain recalls that have already tested the patience of owners and dealers.

Filings with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show the two recall campaigns together cover about 642,698 Rogues, with roughly 323,917 tied to damaged engine bearings and about 318,781 linked to broken throttle-body gears, according to Reuters. Reuters reported the NHTSA notice on February 19, 2026.

Engine Bearing Defect And Inspection

One recall centers on potential manufacturing defects inside Nissan's VC-Turbo engines. Certain bearings can wear out or fail, shedding metal debris that may damage the engine block and let hot oil hit hot components. Regulators say that mix boosts the risk of a fire and a sudden loss of power, which is not exactly the kind of surprise you want at freeway speeds. Dealers are instructed to drop the oil pan and inspect for metal debris. If none is found, technicians will replace the oil and gaskets and reprogram the engine control module. If debris turns up, the entire engine will be replaced at no charge, according to Car and Driver.

Throttle-Body Gears That Can Suddenly Cut Power

The second campaign deals with broken throttle-body gears that can strip or jam and trigger an abrupt loss of motive power. In those cases, filings say drivers may see reduced-power warnings or find the vehicle dropped into limp-home mode, which can turn a normal commute into an unplanned crawl. Dealers are advised to replace the affected throttle components as needed, according to filings reported by Reuters.

What Owners Should Do Now

Rogue owners should plug their vehicle identification number into the NHTSA recall lookup or Nissan's recall lookup and book a dealer visit if the SUV shows an open campaign. Owner notification letters and dealer remedy instructions have been rolling out since last year. For campaign details and the step-by-step repair procedures dealers are supposed to follow, check the NHTSA and Cars.com recall summary at Cars.com or visit the NHTSA recall portal.

Warranty And Timing

Nissan says recall repairs will be performed free of charge. After dealer inspections, the company has also indicated it will extend powertrain coverage for the vehicles covered by these campaigns. Car and Driver reports that Nissan offered to expand powertrain warranty protection to 10 years and 120,000 miles for affected vehicles. If you notice unusual engine noise, limp-mode messages, or a sudden loss of power, avoid highway driving and contact your dealer immediately.
