In what can only be described as a tangible commitment to the safety of children, the Ohio School Bus Safety Grant Program has issued a substantial sum to local school districts in an effort to upgrade their buses with advanced safety equipment. State Representative Roy Klopfenstein (R-Haviland) recently underscored this boon for the communities he represents, revealing that districts within Van Wert, Paulding, Putnam, and Defiance counties were collectively awarded over $143,000, according to a statement from the representative's office.
The Ohio Legislature had earlier earmarked $10 million within the state operating budget to aid school districts in enhancing their transportation fleets, although outcomes like safer travels for our kids are assuredly priceless, every dollar invested here is a dollar towards potential calamity averted. Klopfenstein lauded the grants, saying, "These grants are a great asset to our local communities, helping to support our schools’ efforts in improving the safety for our children," as per a statement from the representative's office. Flexibility was a feature, not a bug, in this grant program, as school districts were given the latitude to determine the most effective use of the funds to bolster their fleet safety.
Awardees in the 82nd House District include the Paulding Exempted Village School District, which received $19,452, and the Wayne Trace Local School District, where $44,358 were granted, amongst others. The recipients unfold down to the Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities, who were given a modest $5,346. This wide distribution of funds testifies to a regional strategy that leaves no district behind, with even the Van Wert City School District seeing a piece of the pie, though it is a smaller slice of $2,181.
