A Pasadena homeowner’s basement renovation turned into a crime scene Monday afternoon when a man walked in under the guise of checking out the work, then pulled a machete and a handgun, according to police.
The 45-year-old homeowner, who had been working in the basement, was confronted by the intruder after being asked to show the interior of the home. The situation quickly turned violent when the suspect allegedly punched the victim, stole his phone and bank card, and then took off in a black car. The homeowner was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities described the suspect as a large Hispanic man wearing a green sweatshirt.
As reported by Fox Baltimore, the incident unfolded around 3:50 p.m. Monday in the 300 block of Caldwell Road, and Eastern District detectives are now leading the investigation.
Police response and tips
Detectives are asking neighbors to review any doorbell or dashcam footage for images of the black vehicle described by the victim. According to the Anne Arundel County Police, anyone with information can call the Eastern District tip line at 410-222-3502 or the county tip line at 410-222-4700.
How does this fit a worrying pattern
According to Hoodline, bladed-weapon robberies have surfaced in other recent local reports, including a machete-style theft at a Brooklyn Park store last March, highlighting the range of weapons turning up in area robberies. Local coverage of those incidents is available via machete-style robbery reports and county records.
