
A quiet early morning on Columbus's west side was jolted by gunfire Thursday when police found a wounded juvenile on Eakin Road and rushed the victim to Nationwide Childrens Hospital. Columbus officers said medics moved quickly to get the juvenile to the pediatric emergency department, and investigators are now trying to piece together what happened.
What Police Say
According to WSYX/ABC6, Columbus police received the call just before 5 a.m. Thursday. When officers arrived on Eakin Road, they found a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators told the station there are currently no suspects and that no parents were on scene when officers responded. WSYX described the situation as a developing incident and reported that few additional details were immediately available.
Where The Victim Was Taken
The juvenile was transported to Nationwide Childrens Hospital, which operates an American College of Surgeons verified Level I pediatric trauma program, according to Nationwide Childrens Hospital. The hospital says its trauma team provides 24/7 specialist care for severely injured children and coordinates follow-up services for patients across the region.
