
A normally quiet stretch near 44th Street and W. Mitchell Street in West Milwaukee turned into an active homicide scene early Tuesday, after police found a 66-year-old woman unresponsive in an apartment and later arrested a suspect.
Officers and firefighters tried to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner responded to the apartment complex, and the death has been ruled a homicide. Investigators say there is no ongoing threat to the public as the case moves forward.

In 911 audio, a caller can be heard saying, "Caller woke up, found his wife on the floor not moving, not breathing." Arrest and investigation
Per FOX6 Milwaukee, officers began lifesaving measures on the woman until the Milwaukee Fire Department arrived, but she was pronounced dead at the scene and her death was later ruled a homicide. Investigators identified a 38-year-old West Milwaukee man as a suspect. Police later located him near 16th and Canal in Milwaukee and took him into custody without incident. The investigation remains active, and officials maintain there is no threat to the broader community.
