As Black History Month concludes, the Raleigh Police Department recognized Mrs. Sharon Reid for her 19 years of service as a crossing guard. She has served in the role since 2007.

Mrs. Reid began working as a crossing guard at Millbrook Elementary School after being encouraged to apply by the school’s principal. Over the years, she has worked closely with students, parents, and school staff, helping ensure children cross safely each day.

According to the City of Raleigh, Mrs. Reid has handled a variety of assignments throughout her career, including some of the more challenging posts in the city. The role requires focus, patience, and consistency, especially during busy school hours.

In a statement shared by the police department, Mrs. Reid said she enjoys seeing students each morning and speaking with their families. She added that working with children has always been important to her and that she is grateful to continue serving after 19 years.

In addition to her work, Mrs. Reid is a wife and mother of two sons. She credits her faith, family support, and encouragement from colleagues and supervisors for helping her remain in the role for nearly two decades.
