Ohio’s Richland County is about to boost the safety features of its school bus fleets, thanks to a generous spread of grant funding. Announced by State Representative Marilyn John, the School Bus Safety Grant Program is funneling over $126,000 into the county's local districts. This funding slice is part of an ample $10 million pie, doled out statewide for bus upgrades—money baked into the state operating budget.
Rep. John, a Republican from Richland County, highlighted the specific largesse flowing into the 76th House District. The award totals range from $5,000 to $36,658, with $36,658 awarded to Lucas Local School District. The funds are a windfall for these schools, allowing them the flexibility to apply the money as they see fit for safety enhancements on both new and existing buses.
Each local district that submitted an eligible application snagged a slice of the funding. The awards for the 76th House District break down with Clear Fork Valley Local receiving $21,399, Crestview Local being handed $5,696, Madison Local taking in $24,743, and Mansfield City snagging $16,318. Shelby City gets an infusion of $11,181, while St. Clairsville-Richland City rounds out the list with an award of $5,426.
