Christopher Koehler Grieco, 44, a former White House attorney, has been charged in Fairfax County after police say a pickup hockey game at The St. James in Springfield on Jan. 11 turned into a violent on-ice attack. According to a criminal complaint, Grieco allegedly struck another player in the head with a hockey stick, then punched and kicked him while he was down on the ice. Authorities arrested Grieco at a Washington-area airport in February before he could board a flight, and he now faces a felony count that could mean years behind bars if he is convicted.

A preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for April 29.
Charges And What They Mean
Grieco is charged with one count of malicious wounding, a Class 3 felony under Virginia law. Under the Code of Virginia, a Class 3 felony conviction carries a potential prison sentence of not less than five years and not more than 20 years, along with possible substantial fines. Grieco's Background And Current Job
Grieco joined the Trump administration in 2017 as Associate Counsel to the President, where he worked on judicial nominations including that of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, according to the White House archives. Where It Happened
The alleged assault unfolded at The St. James, a roughly 450,000-square-foot sports and wellness complex in Springfield that hosts youth and adult leagues, open skates, and pickup hockey sessions. The facility promotes multiple rinks and training spaces and markets itself as a regional hub for both competitive and recreational sports. It is the kind of crowded, fast-paced environment where tempers can flare, and this case highlights how a recreational game can quickly escalate into allegations of serious criminal conduct.
What’s Next In Court
Grieco is set to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on April 29, where a judge will decide whether the case should advance toward a grand jury. FFXnow reports that Grieco’s listed attorney did not respond to requests for comment by press time. For now, the matter remains an open case in Fairfax County and is expected to move through the standard steps of Virginia’s criminal process.
