Rolesville Police Department took to social media to mark National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, recognizing the two SROs dedicated to Rolesville High School, Officer C. Langston and Officer I. Mazyck. During the school year, these officers are stationed at the high school, collaborating with staff and striving to maintain safety on campus. "When school is in session these officers spend their days at the high school working with staff and students to keep the campus safe," the Rolesville Police Department stated in a Facebook post.
Outside school hours, Officers Langston and Mazyck are not to simply disappear from service; rather, they continue to support the community by working on patrol and engaging in community outreach. According to the Rolesville Police Department's Facebook post, these efforts are a critical component of their role, ensuring a continuous presence within the community they serve. Their dual roles underscore a commitment to fostering safe environments for students while contributing to public safety and community well-being beyond the school gates.
In celebrating the work of school resource officers, recognition spans beyond keeping order and enforcing rules within educational settings. It acknowledges the importance of building relationships between law enforcement and youth, an effort that can bridge gaps and foster understanding. With initiatives aimed at community engagement, SROs like Langston and Mazyck play a fundamental part in building trust and ensuring that schools remain secure spaces conducive to learning and growth.
