Parents at Monaco Middle School in northeast Las Vegas are on edge after school leaders alerted families about a rumored threat that has been reported to police. The principal said both the Clark County School District Police Department and Las Vegas Metro Police are investigating, and that extra officers will be on campus on Tuesday as a precaution.
What School Officials Told Families
In a statement to KSNV, Monaco Middle School Principal Chris Popek said that "providing a safe, positive learning environment for our students is the number one priority." He said staff reported a rumor about a threat and that the information was immediately sent to CCSD police and Metro for investigation.
Popek also urged parents to talk with their children about reporting safety concerns and directed anyone with questions to call the school office.
Where To Report Safety Concerns
Popek pointed students and families to Nevada’s SafeVoice system for anonymous tips. According to the Nevada Department of Education’s SafeVoice program, tips can be submitted 24/7 by calling 1-833-216-SAFE (7233), visiting SafeVoice, or using the free mobile app. The program routes credible reports to trained professionals and to law enforcement when necessary.
Police Investigation And Extra Patrols
The Clark County School District Police Department and Metro Police are now investigating, and Popek warned families to expect a visible police presence as officers follow up on the report. He told KSNV that authorities have not released specifics about the nature of the threat report.
School leaders stressed that all steps taken so far are precautionary while investigators determine what, if anything, is behind the rumor.
Why Families Are On Edge
Parents said the alert dialed up their anxiety, a now-familiar reaction whenever a campus safety notice hits inboxes. Around the Las Vegas Valley, some past investigations have ended with officials declaring no credible danger. For instance, FOX5 reported on a 2025 letter about another Clark County high school that authorities later called unsubstantiated.
That cycle of quick warnings followed by cautious policing can leave families wanting clearer and faster communication as rumors ripple through school communities.
How To Reach Monaco Middle
Families with questions can call the Monaco Middle School office at 702-799-3670, the number listed on the school’s website. The Monaco Middle School site also lists CCSD police dispatch at 702-799-5411 for immediate safety concerns.
Officials are asking parents and students to report any suspicious information through SafeVoice or directly to the school or law enforcement. For now, campus leaders say they are treating the report seriously while investigators work the case, and they plan to update families as new information comes in so police can quickly determine how credible the rumor is.
