A water main break in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, caused flooding in local homes. According to ABC7NY, the rupture occurred around 2:30 a.m. between Emmons Avenue and Shore Parkway. Residents, including Elan Samarin, were woken by water entering their living spaces.

Samarin described waking up around 5 a.m. and discovering a puddle in the middle of his living room as he prepared to leave for work. The flooding extended outside, with freezing temperatures causing ice to form on vehicles. News12 Westchester reported that other residents, including Amir Aslamov, experienced water levels reaching up to 20 inches in some basements and garages.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection responded quickly to the ruptured water main. ABC7NY reported that the DEP conducted door-to-door notifications to inform residents. By the following day, the DEP had repaired the water main and restored water service.

Workers capped the water flow and removed the damaged main as part of repair and replacement efforts. Residents were left with mud-caked basements and waterlogged walls. Amir Aslamov told ABC7NY that he hopes the city will assist, noting that a tap in one of the homes was damaged during the break and requires replacement. Following overnight repair work, water service was restored, and residents prepared for the following day while dealing with the lingering effects of the flooding.
