An unidentified man was shot and injured Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of a strip mall in central Aurora, turning a Mississippi Avenue shopping center into an active crime scene. Officers were called at about 4 p.m. to the complex on East Mississippi Avenue, and the victim was taken to a local hospital. Authorities said his wounds do not appear to be life-threatening, and the investigation remains ongoing.
According to Sentinel Colorado, officers responded to the parking lot at 14046 E. Mississippi Ave. after an altercation at the entrance of a business. Aurora police spokesperson Joe Moylan told the outlet, “The investigation later determined a man sustained a gunshot wound following an altercation in the entrance of a business.” Detectives are following up on leads, but police said there were no suspects identified as of Wednesday.
Mississippi Avenue Keeps Seeing Parking-Lot Gunfire
The shooting fits an unsettling pattern along central Aurora’s Mississippi Avenue corridor, which has seen several recent parking-lot attacks. One April 2025 incident left a man dead and others injured, part of a violent overnight stretch of shootings that investigators were still trying to untangle at the time, as reported by CBS Colorado.
Detectives Working Leads, Details Still Sparse
Aurora police have not released a suspect description or specifics on what led to the confrontation outside the business, and they say more information will be made public as the inquiry moves forward. For now, detectives are leaning on witness interviews and any available evidence from the scene to piece together how a midafternoon dispute escalated to gunfire.
How to Share Information With Investigators
Anyone with information about Wednesday’s shooting is urged to contact the Aurora Police Department’s non-emergency line or submit an anonymous tip through local tip services. In previous shooting investigations, local coverage has directed tipsters to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, a number highlighted by CBS Colorado in its reporting on similar Aurora cases.
