Laredo police are searching for a second man after an assault outside a Springfield Avenue restaurant Monday evening left a 28-year-old in critical condition. Detectives have released an image that highlights the unidentified suspect's clothing and a distinctive skull tattoo as they work to track him down.
Victim found unresponsive after Springfield Avenue argument
Officers were called around 9:42 p.m. Monday to the 3900 block of Springfield Avenue, where they found 28-year-old Luis Olguin unresponsive with an apparent head injury, according to the Laredo Morning Times. Investigators say Olguin had been involved in an argument with 50-year-old Marco Antonio Cruz and another man, and police report that Cruz was arrested at the scene.
Police highlight skull tattoo in search for second suspect
Authorities released photos that show a skull tattoo on the suspect's left calf along with what he was last seen wearing: gray Nike basketball shorts, a long-sleeve gray shirt and a baseball cap, as detailed by MySanAntonio. Laredo police told KGNS that the victim was struck with a blunt object and that a second person "also struck the victim," department spokesman Joe Baeza said.
How to help
Anyone who recognizes the man in the photos is asked to call Laredo Crime Stoppers at 795-2800, Crime Stoppers at 727-TIPS (8477) or submit an anonymous tip through the Crime Stoppers P3 app, per the Laredo Morning Times. Detectives are urging residents to share what they know with law enforcement rather than approaching the man themselves.
Legal status
Marco Antonio Cruz, 50, was booked into the Webb County Jail and faces aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, and assault causing bodily injury, a Class A misdemeanor, authorities told KGNS. The investigation remains active as officers continue to search for the unidentified second suspect.
