A late Sunday night shooting on a South Los Angeles block left one man dead at the scene and another wounded and hospitalized, according to police. The gunfire broke out around 8:15 p.m. in the 2200 block of S. Hobart Boulevard, where the two men had been standing outside a building. One was shot in the head and died where he fell. The second was hit in the body and taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Los Angeles Police Department Robbery-Homicide detectives have been called in to take over the case.
What Police Say Happened
Officers told investigators that a car pulled up on the block, briefly drove past the two men, then stopped before several suspects got out and opened fire, according to CBS Los Angeles. Detectives said they do not yet have descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle and have not identified a motive. The victims had not been publicly identified as investigators continued to process the scene.
Investigation Underway
Robbery-Homicide detectives responded to the area and began canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and security camera footage. Capt. Letisia Ruiz told CBS Los Angeles, "This is gonna be a lengthy investigation since they have to interview any witness, try to locate any surveillance footage that they might have." As of the station’s latest update, no arrests had been reported.
How The Public Can Help
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact investigators, saying they plan to follow up on witness tips and any video that surfaces. The department has not released additional details about the victims as the investigation continues.
