On Sunday, heartbreak and birthday candles collided in Strawberry Mansion as relatives laid 27-year-old Jasmine Johnson to rest on what would have been her 28th birthday. Johnson was shot and killed in September while standing on the porch of a home on the 3100 block of West Montgomery Avenue, her family says, and they are again asking the public for help. Loved ones say a $20,000 reward is on the table for tips that lead to an arrest.
Family Remembers Jasmine as 'Loving'
Johnson's parents told 6abc they are still struggling to process the loss. They described her as "happy go lucky" and "very loving." Relatives said Johnson had been at the house helping a friend care for grandchildren when the gunfire erupted, and that she died on her brother's birthday. They then buried her on what would have been her own birthday. Her father said he keeps a photo of her in his car as the family keeps pressing for answers.
Police Say It Was a Crossfire
According to police, the shooting unfolded just before 12:30 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2025, on the 3100 block of West Montgomery Avenue. Investigators recovered nearly two dozen shell casings at the scene, suggesting multiple shooters were involved, as reported by Patch. Officers said at least one bullet went into the home and lodged in a wall. The Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. No arrests were announced in the immediate aftermath, and detectives have canvassed the block for surveillance footage and potential witnesses.
