An 18-year-old woman from Southeast D.C. has been arrested and charged in connection with a November shooting that killed a 17-year-old boy in Hill East, according to police. The victim, identified as Tristan Johnson, was found with a gunshot wound in the 1900 block of C Street SE on Nov. 8 and taken to a hospital, where he died. Police say the arrest moves a months-long homicide investigation into a new phase while detectives continue to dig into what led to the daytime shooting.

Arrest and charges

In a news release, the Metropolitan Police Department said First District officers responded to the scene on Saturday, Nov. 8 at about 2:56 p.m. and found a juvenile male who was conscious and breathing but suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C. Fire and EMS took him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the same release, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested 18-year-old Jaylnn Jamison of Southeast on Tuesday, Feb. 24, acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant. Jamison has been charged with second-degree murder while armed.

Case update

Shore News Network reported that police have not shared further details about what led up to the shooting or what may have motivated it. The outlet noted that the investigation is still active as detectives work to collect more evidence and speak with additional witnesses.

Where the case fits

The shooting that killed Johnson occurred during a weekend marked by several fatal incidents across Washington. The scene was described as being near the Stadium-Armory Metro station in the Hill East neighborhood. Covering the broader string of attacks, The Washington Post reported that homicide detectives had taken over the case but that investigators did not initially identify a motive or name a suspect.

Legal steps ahead

Jamison was arrested on a D.C. Superior Court warrant and faces a charge of second-degree murder while armed, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Prosecutors and detectives are now moving the case through Superior Court. As of now, no formal charging documents, bond information, or court dates have been made public.

Investigators say the case remains open and that more details will be released when they are available. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact police, and officials have urged potential witnesses to come forward as the inquiry continues, Shore News Network reported.
