
A late-morning drive near downtown San Antonio turned deadly on Saturday when a train slammed into a vehicle at the intersection of Salado Street and Commerce Street, killing one person. The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m., and nearby streets were quickly shut down as emergency crews moved in and investigators began sorting through the wreckage, as reported by News 4 San Antonio.
According to News 4 San Antonio, early reports from the scene indicated one fatality. The station said it had a crew on site and would continue updating as officials release more details.
Collision Comes Amid Pattern Of Rail Crashes
An analysis by the San Antonio Express-News mapped nearly 100 train-versus-vehicle collisions in the metro area since 2019, highlighting how frequently these incidents have occurred in recent years. That reporting noted that local rail crossings vary widely in safety features, from full gates and flashing signals to bare-bones setups marked only by stop signs.
Recent Local Fatalities
This latest crash follows other deadly encounters with trains in the city. In early January, a woman walking alongside tracks on the West Side was struck and killed by a train, according to KSAT. Police told reporters the conductor sounded his horn, but the woman did not move away from the tracks.

Authorities had not released the victim's identity or any detailed cause of the crash as of the latest reports, and investigators remained at the scene, News 4 San Antonio reported.
