Michigan Central Station will soon host a new Boys & Girls Club, the Detroit Entertainment Innovation Incubator, opening on Tuesday. Created by music stars and alumni Usher and Big Sean, the facility aims to give Detroit youth opportunities in entertainment and entrepreneurship. Local 4 Live highlighted the event with insights from Roderick Hardamon, board chair of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Detroit, and member Logan Hrabowski.
The $1 million complex is designed to support Detroit youth, serving as a hub for creative collaboration and career-building. Hrabowski told WXYZ the initiative is “definitely more business-focused.” The incubator will include a virtual production studio, a special effects lab, and a creator’s lounge, providing resources for individuals aged 14 to 25 to develop their careers.
Beyond its high-tech facilities, the incubator partners with Usher's New Look, Big Sean's Sean Anderson Foundation, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, and Emory University's Goizueta Business School to expand resources for attendees. The Detroit News noted Usher’s experience with a similar facility in Atlanta and his excitement for the impact this new venture could have.
On "Good Morning America," Usher said he hopes the incubator will foster “economic mobility for young men and women here in Detroit,” inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs. According to WXYZ, Big Sean reflected on his Detroit roots, noting the personal significance of contributing to Michigan Central Station, which he used to pass when it was abandoned. Nina Williams of the Boys & Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan praised their efforts, calling it “super amazing to see two people of their stature support the community in such a positive and impactful way.”
