A viral open-mic vlog from Canadian creators the Kalogeras Sisters has, according to the owner, put a tiny Hollywood comedy room under siege. After a January night at The Hollywood Comedy, the venue says it was hit with a torrent of one-star reviews, racist messages, and direct death threats that rattled staff and performers. The club has banned the sisters, and the clash has already escalated into legal notices from both sides.
The Clip And The Backlash That Followed
On Jan. 21 the sisters, Sunday, Demitra and Eliana, along with a collaborator, filmed an open-mic night and later posted the footage to their YouTube channel, which has drawn millions of followers. In the vlog, the trio critique the room, and Demitra can be heard saying, "I wouldn't wish that comedy club on my worst enemy," a line the venue says helped trigger a wave of punitive online reviews and hostile messages. As reported by Los Angeles Times.
Owner Says Review Bombing Quickly Turned Into Threats
Owner Jiaoying Summers posted a detailed statement saying The Hollywood Comedy was slammed with hundreds of one-star Google and Yelp reviews within hours, along with what she described as "credible death threats" and dozens of violent messages directed at staff. Summers wrote that the harassment has put the women-owned club in jeopardy and worsened preexisting health issues, and that the venue is leaning on help from patrons and the press as it rides out the fallout. Host And Performers Offer Different Takes
The night's host, Barry Montoya, told reporters that the sisters arrived late, repeatedly interrupted the show and that Demitra cursed at the audience when her set drew no laughs. Montoya said the manager tried to fit the trio into shorter time slots and that the family's video shows an edited, one-sided version of what happened in the room that night. As recounted by Los Angeles Times.
Letters, Counters And New Tensions
The dispute has already shifted into legal posturing: the club sent the sisters a cease-and-desist letter asking that the footage be taken down, and the sisters, through their attorney, denied any wrongdoing and responded with their own cease-and-desist, according to reporting and documents. Both sides have stayed mostly quiet in public beyond those filings, leaving third-party accounts and screenshots to keep fueling the fight online. As reported by Yahoo.
What Comes Next For The Neighborhood Stage
Summers has banned the sisters from her clubs and urged their followers to stop the harassment, while asking anyone who actually attended the show to leave honest reviews to counter the campaign. The club says it is working with platforms and the local community to protect performers and patrons, and comedians in the scene say they hope the episode leads to clearer ground rules around filming and consent at open mics.
